Buy Escape Room Board Games

Escape room board games are more than just games, they are an experience that you and your friends will be talking about for a long time. In an escape room game, the players will often find themselves locked in a building, such as a mansion, a castle, or stuck on a desert island. The game unfolds as a story, during which the players will be presented with a series of puzzles that they have to solve. If they solve a puzzle correctly, they will advance in the story and on to the next puzzle, but if they make a mistake they will usually still get to advance in the story, but they will receive a lower score in the game. Do you have what it takes to escape?

The Different Kinds of Escape Room Board Games

Many escape room board games can be played solo but can also be enjoyed in moderate sized groups or with the entire family. More Than Meeples offers several popular series of escape room board games and you can find out more about each below.

Traditional Escape Room Games

  • Exit - The Exit series of games come in different difficulty levels. You’ll get a booklet and some decks of cards which will provide information for the puzzles you will need to solve to exit from wherever you find yourself. You’ll also have a decoder wheel to see if you solved the puzzle correctly. Don’t worry if you can’t solve a particularly tough puzzle, as the game also provides you with a deck of hint cards for when you get stuck.
  • Unlock - The Unlock game series is played in a similar way to the Exit series, but in an Unlock game you will be using an app that you download onto your phone or tablet. After you escape the predicament that the game puts you in through solving a series of puzzles you will receive a score from the app that will vary depending on how long you spent playing the game and how many mistakes you made when solving the puzzles.

Newer Escape Room and Adventure Games

  • Adventure Games - The Adventure Games series plays much like a game from the Exit series, complete with a booklet and decks of cards you use to solve puzzles. But the focus in the Adventure Games is not on escaping, but on telling a story as you and your friends go on an adventure through a dungeon or across a volcanic island.
  • Escape Room - In the Escape Room series of games, you use a special Chrono Decoder device to solve the in-game puzzles. The Chrono Decoder comes with either the base game or the family edition of the game. Once you have the Chrono Decoder you can buy Escape Room expansions that will put you and your group of friends in new tough spots and provide you with new and exciting puzzles to solve.

Escape Room Games with a Twist

  • Undo - In the Undo series of games, a person will die at the start of the game. You will time travel minutes, hours, or even years into the past to solve puzzles which will alter the present. The end goal of the game is to prevent the death from happening. The game is played with different decks of cards that provide you with the puzzles you will be solving and drive the story of the game.
  • Mazescape - A Mazescape game is all about completing mazes, but with a twist. The maze is on a folded paper that you will unfold and refold in order to access different parts of the maze, find treasures, and locate keys and other items that allow you to ultimately escape the maze.
  • Crime & Capers - A Crime & Capers game is for a group of 4 to 6 plays in which you will be working together to solve puzzles, but at the same time you will be competing against each other to win the game. This is a unique and interesting take on the genre of escape room games.
